‘Constructed Landscapes’

23 / 24 / 25 September

Ready to have fun and create? I am thrilled to be invited to teach a three day workshop at Wildman’s Studios in North Yorkshire. Over the time we are together we will explore different ways of taking inspiration from the landscape around us; mixing the close with a distance vision to create a different way of interpreting what we see. Starting with black and white and moving on to limited colour we will work quickly to create many new starting points and create source material for collage compositions.

The first day we will loosen up, drawing outside, using just black and white to focus on creating interesting and varies marks within our drawings. The second and third days we will explore different ways of mixing in line work and graphic elements to develop an interesting composition within your work. On the third day you can scale up to work on larger sheets.

There will be time for individual feedback and you will leave with a sketchbook full of newly composed studies to fuel your paintings back at home.

This course is suitable for experienced painters and beginners who are looking to explore landscape in a different way. You will need to bring with you an open mind, plenty of acrylic paint, a selection of brushes, gloss acrylic medium, limited colours of extra drawing materials (coloured pencils, compressed charcoal) an A2 pad of 160gsm cartridge paper and an A4 spiral bound sketchbook. Larger paper can be bought from Alice on site.

“Disrupt” is one of Alice’s favourite words and it fits with my philosophy at this point in my life. Please, no staid and boring – living is the order of the day! Chock full of technique, advice and just general goodness.
