A rare studio sale sharing a collection of paintings from recent shows and studio working practice, many of which are now available online for the first time.
You can click straight through to see all the paintings now – but I wanted to share some images with you showing studio scenes and how this work has evolved.
I’ve continued using more fluid paint – both on canvas and on wooden panels. Seemingly uncontrollable, this has encourage me to slow down, almost coaxing the paint to flow as each layer must be tended as it dries. There are times the process is more meditative, and then is coupled with bolder expansive moves with large amounts of paint applied with a whole body energy.
As always the balance is between creating conditions for chance and the unexpected – and then bringing in enough control and structure to make sense of the textural qualities and composition. Working on partially raw canvas means there’s little allowance for adjustments or hesitancy… at this scale it requires a physical commitment that is evident in the finished painting.
These paintings incorporate marks pulled from location drawings and while they are not specific landscapes the simpler compositions allow for a more refined, simpler state of being. Often calming, and with a unique colour story. I hope you find something you love!
