The First Vanishes
£1,600
At one point this painting was deep forest green, and then red… hence the title! This is often the way; as we set out we don’t know where a path will lead us. As the painting develops I have to be ready to conduct what emerges – to listen as well as to see. There are many possible choices but gradually a personality becomes clear and then it’s a case of nurturing that; this one is slightly brooding!
That deep, almost air force blue alongside the rich burgundy red, but there is softness too in the cooler greys and a dusky pink. The areas which have been scraped back to expose the layers beneath suggest a vulnerability… This painting would add boldness to a bedroom or a dining room.
