I love the soft distance in this; it balances the strong shapes and bolder colours but draws you towards what may lie ahead. I wanted to keep the bold mark-making but the gentle undulations in the layers of sky also bring a delicacy to this. When it came to photograph these paintings it seemed fitting to use the urban space outside my studio – it brings that contrast between two worlds into focus. But you can hang this on a wall like normal. It would be great in a study or hall corner.
