the pair of light is dark… where there is sunlight there are dark shadows and I’m constantly surprised by the back shapes etched in to the landscape when I draw or take photographs. Using such contrast alongside a more restrained palette of blues and ochre allows me to build a painting and bury lots of lines, scraped marks and texture details….
