I started this sketchbook a while ago and have been adding to the pages randomly. On our co-create call today, we talked about making your own books from recycled papers, we had a poem about falling down and getting up again and David Bowie made an appearance! 😁(See stories)

I love the random nature of these calls - and how ideas show up in different ways and eventually come through and settle when we are ready for them.

Two things a room is never complete without... books and art! Lots of you sharing today and this is mine - this is David Carson The End of Print - far too cool for me at college but perhaps it set that desire for construction and different elements contrasted together, mix of feeling of something hand-drawn and the ways elements from the environment are pulled in and mixed.

Funny how certain things stay with us...

Went into the studio for the first time in about a month. Found some paintings I had forgotten, swept the floor, cleared and re-painted the paint splattered table (had to take a picture of the surface first though!) and unclogged lids and nozzles.

I have more paint than I thought 🧐 and also did a big late night supplies order yesterday from @jacksons_art and don’t really know what will be arriving... I suspect enough to keep me going for a while! but I feel a bit more set up and ready to get back. Few changes to make on these 😊

Hands up who has incomplete projects? ✋

The year ended with a fun and silly evening at home but lots of still “open” projects to complete. Good thing we get to set our own schedules then, rather than go by an arbitrary day in the calendar 🙂

I do love this time to pause and re-consider but I’m looking forward to finishing quite a few open loops and then have an idea about how I’d like to approach things a bit differently this year...

I want time to explore, rather than finish.

I want to allow space for discovery, rather than working the same way.

I want to stretch things - and I don’t yet know what that looks like. But I’m going to have 🤩 fun!

Looking forward to a year of learning and doing more of the things we enjoy. Apart from the obvious (!) what are you looking forward to bringing into your creative practice or doing more of?

Happy Twixmas! Today I have been pootling into 2021 planning. (There is a bonus episode of Art Juice out today which includes a year review and goal setting which was part of our Best Art Year Ever event - re-released for you. Link to episode 101 in my bio)....

🍭And then I got distracted sorting Jelly Beans 🤣 interesting to note how the subtle colour differences become clearer as you sub-divide. 😜

What’s your favourite?

Mine would be the cinnamon one. I love love cinnamon sweets - we don’t have enough in the UK. Aniseed balls would almost come close, but not the same.

Had to browse back to find this painting with its optimistic title, and it made me want to create a record of the year as some of these feel a lifetime ago... (There may be another as I ran out of picture spaces!)

Continue to be grateful for making art and how it challenges me, for the ability to change and create your own path, for people who help in many ways, for somehow coping with whatever life throws at you. Grateful for art friends, giggles online and in real life. For buyers who have supported artists through the artist support pledge, for doorstep deliveries and couriers! And life which continues outside of art despite everything. This is my son who has edited the podcast this year alongside all the Alevel fiasco and the toughest first term at university.

Thank you for being here and sharing your work too, and the comments. Really really hope we can meet in person soon.
